It is with equal amounts of sadness and excitement that I find myself writing this post. Team #SportsVizSunday is changing, we are saying farewell to #SportsVizSunday team member Chris Westlake as he hangs up his #SportsVizSunday boots.
Chris started his journey with us at Vegas in 2019; he joined an open session that we hosted with the community to help shape our future direction and we were so blown away by his passion and enthusiasm that we invited him to join the team and help us run #SportsVizSunday.
Over the last 2 years Chris has been instrumental in helping #SportsVizSunday run smoothly and make it as easy as possible for you all to get involved. He has led the ongoing development of our website, evolving it's structure and design as our content grew and also developing a participation tracker that people use to record completion of our monthly challenges.
It has honestly been an absolute pleasure getting to know Chris and on behalf of all of the #SportsVizSunday team there is only one thing we can really say at this time, thank you! Chris will be leaving us a stronger, better organised team and with the website in great shape, his legacy will live on for many years to come.
As always though, with change comes a chance to freshen things up. At #SportsVizSunday we want to welcome new ideas and diverse voices within the team. What does this mean? Come join us! We have decided to expand the #SportsVizSunday team back up to 5 people to ensure we always have enough capacity to keep up with our ongoing commitment to help showcase your sports data viz and to continue our monthly challenges to give you maximum opportunities to get involved and participate.
This time around we are opening up the recruitment process and allowing anyone within the #SportsVizSunday community the chance to volunteer to fill the two spaces on our all-star data-viz roster.
What does being a member of the #SportsVizSunday team involve?
Writing our weekly sports data-viz round-up once every 4 weeks; one of the big reasons for expanding the team to 5 people is to ensure we always have capacity to publish our weekly blogs, ensuring we continue to showcase your creations, inspiring others to get vizzing and sharing their love of sports and data
Help to run our monthly data-viz challenges; every month we share a different data set, showcasing a sport, sports-person or sporting event. You will have the opportunity to find guest hosts or to source the data yourself as you lead the challenge for a month. Generally this would happen once every 3-4 months.
Join in a quarterly planning call; helping us plan our future events, such as our Tableau Conference live challenges (roll on the days we can all be together in person, united by our love of data and sports!)
We ask that anyone putting themselves forward does it recognising the importance of our core #SportsVizSunday values; to foster inclusivity, embrace diversity and showcase others with integrity and honesty.
So if you are someone that loves sports, loves data, and loves the chance to selflessly showcase others then we invite you to put your name forward! To do so is simple, we have created a short Google Form for you to complete. We will be personally reviewing every submission and will hope to be able to announce our new roster before Tableau Conference(ish) in November 2021.
