Weekly Roundup 07.02.2023

How can I love a sport so much and hate a sport so much? Welcome to life as an England Cricket Fan! Over the last 5 days we have seen the highs and lows of Bazball. Cries of despair when England batsmen through wickets away during their first innings and a barrage of Australian short bowling, through to some fantastic short bowling of their own to curtail Austalia's second innings score, and then a hell of an effort from Ben Stokes to take England oh so close to victory. Regardless of the outcome the 2nd Ashes test has not been one to disappoint when it comes to drama and storylines.

This week we start the viz with one from Lauren Webb that we missed a couple of weeks ago. In this viz Lauren analyses the success of the Loughborough Lightning in the Women's Netball Super League. I love the colours Lauren has chosen, the viz really pops.

From netball to football and a viz from #SportsVizSunday regular, Ansgar Wolsing. I really enjoyed this fresh look at the fixtures for the forthcoming Bundesliga season. Will it result in another Bayern title or willing Dortmund take the final step that they so painfully failed to do last season?

We don't get many vizzes analysing the League or Ireland Premier League but Robert Reid treated us to this one comparing the matchday odds of home matches from last season and the outcome of the match.

If a League of Ireland viz is a #SportsVizSunday rarity, a Jello Shot Challenge viz is definitely a new one on me! Before we enjoy Julie Warren's viz, let me just explain the concept... Fan bases from the eight teams in the MCWS compete over who can ingest the most shots.

We end this week celebrating some sports related celebrations on Tableau Public. First, Kate treated us to this fantastic exploration of the Tour De France. It is not only a superb design but also an incredibly detailed story and analysis, definitely a viz that is well worth checking out!

And the second of our Tableau Public shout outs goes to #SportsVizSunday regular Ben Norland who was this week showcased as part of the latest cohort of Tableau Public Featured Authors. Congratulations to everyone selected, but a special shoutout to Ben who has treated us to cricket, football, NBA and F1 vizzes over recent months, all of which demonstrate design creativity and great analysis.

That's it for this week, thank you to everyone who has inspired us in the last 7 days with content, you keep the vizzes coming and we will keep featuring them (although please not too many celebrating the Aussies going 2-0 up!).
