Weekly Roundup 02.09.2025

It's Super Bowl day! Its one of my favourite sporting days of the year, both as an entertainment spectacle as well as a peerless sporting demonstration too. This year is shaping up to be a superb game as arguably both teams are set up to be able exploit each other. One thing's for sure, I don't think it will be short of drama.

Something else packed with drama (in a good way!) are this week's visualisations.

First up is a regular to these pages who has recently got on the map layers bus - Bo McCready (welcome aboard Bo!). Bo has looked at the men's and women's 2025 Royal Rumble. These wrestling events involve lots of wrestlers entering and leaving the ring, and Bo has tracked them all through the bout. I really like the effect of the stacked line graph at the bottom, as well as the dotted lines connecting eliminated wrestlers with those who eliminated them. Mostly I love how this captures the chaos of these events!

Next, Sidharth Suresh has been developing his skills on Streamlit with this Euro 2024 dashboard. I don't have any experience with Streamlit, but this is a really attractive dashboard. The visualisation looks great and it is really easy to use. Might have to find out a bit more about how it was made.

I've finally created the dashboard to go with my minimal NFL drive charts (featured in last week's roundup I think). This allows you to see the whole season for each franchise in very minimal form, before picking a game to see in the more detailed style. I also published a slimline version that just shows the single game minimal view too.

Myself, CJ and Simon met recently to talk about our favourite #SportsVizSunday visualisations from January, and there were some absolute humdingers to choose from! Check it out on Youtube now and let us know which ones were your favourites.

And that's it for this week! Short but still very sweet.
