We are spoilt for choice in sports this week as we see the start to the six nations, a ridiculous amount of champions league games, and of course one of my new favourite sports, the darts. (in which they are playing a new format in this year for the world masters!)
Off the back of Simons round up last week I started to think about the grand slams in wider context. Crazy to think how the big 3 (rafa, roger & novak) have closed out a whole generation / decade of players winning grand slams. We surpassed the 90's born winners, and now are onto the likes of Sinner and Alcaraz in the mens game.
Onto some community work from the week, Matteo & Nick look at predicting the upcoming champions league phase. Lets see how their predictions come out!
Chris welcomes the six nations with open arms, looking at the head to heads over the last 30 years. I love the simplicity to each card with the year and points differencial. Interestingly I didn't know that England were the only team not have been beaten by Italy in the six nations. Ireland winning for a third time on the trot would be pretty crazy. All to play for!
Rob follows suit with a six nation viz also with a historic winner tile style to it. Rob splits the tiles into years showcasing the winners run in the tournament, and who was gracious enough to win the wooden spoon. Whilst Italy and Scotland both have failed to win the 6 nations, it seems Italy is more like to take the wooden spoon.
Cmon guys, a round of applause for Dan Wade for this feat. 24 F1 visuals, one from each race. Challenge complete. Check it out from schedules to circuits, to race pace and strategy we have it all.
I sometimes have to pinch myself when talented individuals are willing to write guest blogs for the site. Jordan was willing to offer up a full end to end project on retreiving understat data, cleansing it, pushing it to a database and also visualisng it in his latest project. Check out some of that ETL process in this guest blog below.
Mo has been looking at some NFL drive data. He strikes perfectly the balance between context, minimalisim and detail needed on the page. A clear way to show drives as the match progresses with the various touch downs field attempts and turnovers.
With the super bowl next weekend, Zak looks at the breakdown of half time shows and commercials. I've learnt that budweiser (bud light) have far too much money to spend on marketing!
Do you want a summary of all the premier league games? Well look no further than Mohammad Adnans streamlit app.
If you have a spare 20 minutes today - watch this video on the Olympics and whether we are reaching a glass ceiling of breaking olympic records. Really well articulated & love the storytelling aspect to the running, basketball and swimming stories.
That's all for this week.
