Weekly Roundup 09.22.2024

Happy Sunday! We have quite the round up this week, and probably the largest range of sports showcased in one round up! Lets dive straight in.

A few resources to start your weekend:

Below is one of the most thorough guides i've come across, collated by Dom. Python, Tableau, R, blogs, articles you name it... it's in here.

If basketball is more your jam why don't you check out how to create a NBA shot chart using R.

Statsbomb share with us an animation on how goalkeeper kicks are getting shorter. You can read more about this in the accompanying blog.

It wouldn't be a SportsVizSunday without a Dan Wade F1 visual. This week Dan dabbles in some python code to look at the subtle differences in telemetry data between lec and pia.

Adam Green creates an artistic print for his miles to date, as he hunts down the 1000km marker.

Rob Taylor analyses the british and irish lions. I love the way he has incorporated the badge to be able to navigate the view. There are some really nice touches with the ability to bounce out to wikipedia for each player.

Tobiloba looks at the distribution of club players ages. Interesting to note some of the older players will tend to be goalkeepers, take for example manchester city and west ham with players that are 39!

Records are there to be beaten. Ohtani joins the 50-50 club shortly after Sarah previously visualised the 40-40 club.

Imagine being so good you have your own club! This visual from Sports Ball perfectly illustrates the base / run combo.

Yasushi also visualises the 50-50 club but with the trajectory to the milestone! I love the subtlety of the annotations for context as well as the boxed banding.

Sidharth has written an awesome guide for tagging and analysing hockey matches. He is kind enough to share the underlying code!

All eyes on Caitlin Clark in this visual from Melissa. Melissa creates a customisable radar chart to show Caitlin's rookie year compared to other players.

and finally, a congratulations to Tableau Public Jules Claeys for their viz of the day.

Enjoy the rest of your day,

CJ & the #SportsVizSunday team
